Embrace Your Full Potential

Hypnosis is a natural, yet altered, state of mind where the critical factor of the conscious mind is relaxed, and selective thinking occurs.

Our subconscious mind functions much like software that controls the hardware of a computer. It has many functions, including problem solving, memory storage, and guiding our autonomic nervous system. It is where beliefs that influence our emotions and behavior reside. Regardless of our conscious resolve, roadblocks to our goals can be rooted in the subconscious.

"My session with Kathy was transformative. She guided me to a place within myself I had never accessed before—a secure, calm oasis that has since become my go-to when performing. For any musician or artist facing the pressures of the stage, this experience is a must-try. You might discover a vital tool you didn’t realize you were missing."

Professional musician, about their session before a solo performance with orchestra
You love music and you work hard.
However,
• Do you experience mental blocks or stage fright?
• Do you perform well yet feel drained of energy, joy, or motivation?
• Do you have self-sabotaging habits?
• Do you want to become more expressive or free?
• Do you find stress, worry, self-doubt, or pain distracting?
• Do you wish to explore even deeper inner resources?

Hypnosis facilitates access to the subconscious mind so we can direct our inner resources to achieve our goals.
It is never too late for positive change.

Welcome
I provide personalized online hypnotherapy sessions for professional, amateur and student musicians and others in the performing arts community, including actors and public speakers, and present workshops designed specifically for performers (See below.)

My goal is to empower you to grow as the unique artist and person you aspire to be.
My story

My life has been defined by music—as a violinist, teacher, arts administrator, concert presenter, and music school director. My passion for music runs deep, but alongside that, I’ve always been fascinated by the powerful connection between the mind and body.

After decades of working with musicians of all ages and genres, I was inspired to study hypnotherapy as a natural next step. This journey introduced me to transformative tools for performers. Because of my background, I understand the unique challenges of performing and enjoy collaborating to achieve each person's goals.

I am a graduate of the Hypnotherapy Academy of America, one of the oldest state-licensed institutions for Clinical Hypnotherapy, having completed 500 hours of training in Integral Hypnotherapy® that emphasizes an adaptive, multi-session approach designed to meet the individual needs of each client. This approach was scientifically validated through the largest peer-reviewed study of hypnotherapy in the United States, funded by the National Institutes of Health.

All first sessions are preceded by a free 15-minute phone or Zoom consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a session?
Usually sessions last 60 to 90 minutes.

Do you offer a free consultations?
Absolutely. A 15-20 minute Zoom
consultation gives us an opportunity
to talk before deciding to work
together. This meeting allows us
to get to know each other a bit.
It is a good chance for you to explain
your goals and for me to answer
your questions.

Are your sessions online?
Yes. It has been found that online sessions
are equally effective to in-person sessions, while allowing
the client to be comfortable at home, wherever they
may live, and enjoy sessions while on the road.

What if I am in a different time zone from you?
Not a problem.

How many sessions will it take?
Hypnotherapy is a very efficient way to create change; It can often take only 6 sessions to achieve a desired goal. However some clients reach their goal in even less time, while others may require or wish for more sessions to fully realize their goal or add new goals.

What are some of the musician-specific issues that hypnosis helps?
Musicians are people first. Issues may be small or not so small, including blocks, fears, stage fright, stresses, syndromes, body image issues, habits, or anxieties. Specific issues related to an instrument, (for example, unwanted tension in a violinist's left hand that affects intonation or shifting,) or other learning or performing roadblocks can be helped. We will discuss your goals before we commence.

If I am under a physician's care for the condition I want to address - including a psychiatrist's - do I need to first get the doctor's OK?
Yes.

Isn't hypnosis just saying a positive suggestion when I'm relaxed?
Although hypnotic suggestion may be part of the process, it is only one of a myriad of effective procedures in the toolbox of a trained hypnotherapist.

How is working with a hypnotherapist different than self-hypnosis recordings?
Consider learning an instrument. Although personal practice is imperative, and a teacher's role is to help you eventually be on your own, it is best to start with a teacher who explains, demonstrates, and guides us. Or, another analogy may be to compare working with a supportive, professional accompanist, to working with music-minus-one recordings.

Is hypnotherapy only for big problems?
No. Itches can be as distracting as pain.

Will I blurt out a secret?
No. Rest assured. You are completely awake and aware during hypnosis. If you do chose to share anything personal, our session is completely confidential.

How often are the sessions scheduled?
It is good to have weekly sessions. Though there is some flexibility, consistency helps to build momentum and follow progress.

Do I have to do anything in between our online sessions?
Just like music lessons, for best results, the work done during our appointments is supported through activities between sessions - called accelerators. Accelerators may include writing personalized suggestions, daily self-hypnosis, or listening to a custom recording I made for you.

What if a session runs long?
Because we go "where the session takes us," I do not charge additional if we go beyond the normal 90 minutes of the first session or 60 minutes of the subsequent sessions.

Is there a refund policy?
Although it has not happened, my refund policy is based on my client's satisfaction. If a client expresses dissatisfaction with their hypnotherapy session, a full refund will be offered.

Is hypnosis like meditation?
Hypnosis and meditation produce similar brainwaves, and both strive to calm inner "chatter." However, hypnosis involves quieting the critical factor of the conscious mind and focusing attention on specific ideas designed to help reach a particular goal, while most meditation practices involve quieting the mind and limiting thought. Both have important value.

Do you ever work with non-musicians or non-performers?
Sure. As scheduling allows, I'm very happy to . Hypnotherapy has a wide range of benefits for people of all ages in every field.
Did you know? In 1901 , renowned pianist and composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, in gratitude, dedicated his now acclaimed Piano Concerto No. 2 in
c minor, Op. 18, to Dr. Nikolai Dahl, a Russian neurologist (and excellent amateur musician, himself) who used hypnosis to help Rachmaninoff overcome his 3-year composer's block after public ridicule of the premiere of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 1.

Myths and Facts

Myth: Some people can’t be hypnotized.
Fact: Everyone has the ability to be hypnotized because it’s a natural, normal state that each of us enter at least twice each day – when awakening and falling asleep or even zoning-out while driving. We also may enter a kind of hypnotic state when we become engrossed in a book or project.

Myth: You lose control or do things against your will (like cluck like a chicken.)
Fact: A hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything against your will. (Remember, those people on stage in Las Vegas volunteered to be part of the hypnosis show.) During a session you may even experience heightened awareness.
Myth: Under hypnosis you might reveal personal secrets.
Fact: You can keep secrets under hypnosis just as easily as in daily life. You are in complete control throughout the hypnotherapy session. You are the "co-therapist."

Myth: Intelligent people can’t be hypnotized
Fact: Studies suggest that people of above average intelligence who are capable of concentrating and who have a capacity for creativity and vivid imagination usually make the best subjects.

Myth: Only people with huge problems turn to hypnotherapy.
Fact: Many use hypnosis as a versatile, practical tool for general health, wellness and self-development.

Myth: A person under hypnosis is asleep or unconscious.
Fact: Hypnosis is neither sleep nor unconsciousness, even though a common misconception is that you are asleep (picture a man with a goatee and beady eyes swinging a pocket watch saying "you are getting very sleepy.")

Myth: I need to go very "deep" to get results.
Fact: While a "deep trance" is often associated with hypnotherapy, you don't necessarily need to be in one to experience its benefits; hypnotherapy can be effective even with a lighter state of relaxation and focused attention.

Myth: Hypnosis isn’t accepted by the scientific community.
Fact: Multiple scientific studies from esteemed medical institutions point to the speed and effectiveness of hypnotherapy. A four-year, $3 million study, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and conducted at the University of New Mexico Hospital, utilized the Hypnotherapy Academy of America's (HAA) Integral Hypnotherapy® methodology, in which I was trained. This research not only demonstrated the effectiveness of Integral Hypnotherapy® but also opened the door to thousands of medical referrals for hypnotherapists trained in HAA’s scientifically validated methods.

In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love.
In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible smile.
In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm.
I realized, through it all, that
in the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.
And that makes me happy.
For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me,
within me, there's something stronger - something better pushing right back.
Albert Camus (1913 - 1960)
